Bio / Resumee / Statement:
I was born in Guadalajara México within a family devoted to baroque religious art which would be a primary influence, this echoes on the dramatic, theatrical expression on some of the characters and certain ways to compose.

Thanks to the contact to art curators and friends like Grady Harp I’ve learned a few years ago that I didn’t have to paint watermelons in order to show I’m Mexican, so I was finally liberated. The contact with Neil Zukerman in New York afterwards was definitive. That was the first time I confirmed that figurative art was still alive in the NY scene, even better… there were signs it was finally coming back. Thanks to Neil I knew not only the art of Anne Bachelier and Frederick Hart but the philosophy behind it. That released at last the ideas that dwelled within and gave the justification to paint the way I wanted to paint, following ever since the “Idealistic School of Contemporary Representational Art words I’ve found in a book of Hart’s work and that were written since then in my memory (Yes I know is a long title for a school but to me every word made perfect sense).

The tympanum at Washington’s Cathedral displays most of Hart’s philosophy which has some of its foundations on Teilhard de Chardin theories.

This blend of ideas along with some other influences and the support of people like Anna Parker, and some other curators and people involved in art, has given as a result these “Stories from the Lost Continent series. The depiction of a common human nature in extraordinary circumstances, idealizing till the point it’s still believable.

This blend of ideas along with some other influences and the support of people like Anna Parker, and some other curators and people involved in art, has given as a result these “Stories from the Lost Continent series. The depiction of the human nature in extraordinary, fantastic circumstances, idealizing to the point of the unreal but at the same time believable under the logic of each painting.
