Ciaran Shaman

category: Drawing
technique: Pencil

Bio / Resumee / Statement:
Born and raised in the heart of the heavily-industrial North-East of England in 1971, Ciaran Shaman's artwork represents a radical departure from the man-made and unnatural environment he grew-up in. Fully self-taught and with a distinctive and original style Ciaran's work is inspired by the very soul, fabric, and energy of the universe itself; and can be found in many strange and interesting places such as gracing the covers of 'underground' music magazines, being used on undosed LSD blotter-art, music festival 'flyers', as well as adorning many people's personal walls worldwide.

Ciaran mainly specialises in high-detail pencil artwork. Using both traditional and Prismacolor pencils he creates highly contrasting scenes and images, ranging from intense colour-laden psychedelia to serene black & white landscapes. He has also been known to use the digital medium on occasion, such as when he designed a range of anti-merchandise in 2007 for the globally renowned author and truth seeker, David Icke.

"One cannot express how important art is to society", says Ciaran. "Even to a society that thinks it has progressed beyond art (and into pure logic and technology) it is still of supreme importance - perhaps more so; as art is energy - it is vibration. It radiates a frequency that is absorbed by the mind, digested by the conscious, and then put back into society in an evolved form by those who experience it. Therefore it is our duty as artists to promote all that is positive, to encourage and show through all the different artistic mediums such as the visual arts, music, dance, poetry and writing; love and respect for our fellow man and natural environment. It is essential for our evolution as a loving species. Take the spiritually uplifting and positive art out of society and replace it with negative art and symbolism - such as those used by religious groups, the Freemasons, and large corporations; and a rapid and dangerous decline of social spirituality will ensue - as is apparent in Western society today where money, McDonalds, and mobile-phone companies have seemingly become the new 'gods'. Art in its many forms and artists worldwide can and must help re-dress the balance towards a more spiritually-involved future - otherwise what kind of future will it be? My biggest human inspiration, the late and much-missed Terence McKenna once said, 'The future is in the imagination'. How fundamentally true and beautiful that is. Despite what the media are constantly telling us I do feel deeply that humankind is a creature of love, friendship, creativity, and joy; and that the vast majority of people globally imagine a beautiful world based around these attributes. This is what, despite all the doom and gloom and negative energy surrounding the emerging new world order, keeps me going. This is what gives me hope for a wonderful future for us all."
